THE Applus+ SOLUTION
Applus+ has developed customised technology for the inspection of airport hydrant system fuel lines, meaning that most of an airport’s difficult-to-inspect pipelines are now inspectable. These inspections provide quantitative data on the basis of which the asset owner can make sound decisions.
The Applus+ technology, involving pipeline inspection tools (PIT), ultrasonic techniques and corrosion mapping, is unmatched in terms of coverage, detectability and manoeuvrability to overcome common pipeline challenges, such as short-radius bends (1D back-to-back bend radius), unbarred full-bore offtakes and diameter changes. Thin-walled pipelines can also be measured, as this new technology can measure a remaining wall of just 1.5 mm thick.
By removing a flanged spool piece in the pipeline, such as a valve, the inspection system can be inserted and retrieved from the pipeline. With this service, our clients can assure the integrity of their hydrant systems without interfering with their day-to-day operations or requiring unwanted system shutdowns.
There are tailormade inspection systems available for each part of the hydrant fuel infrastructure. Following an inspection, the client will receive a report containing detailed information about dents, remaining wall thickness, damaged inner liners, etc.
These inspections can be performed regularly, following the inspection and maintenance programme, on all parts of the airport hydrant system with a view to ensuring safety, detecting and better understanding degradation processes and assessing the remaining life of the system.
