Our history

1996

Agbar Automotive was born following the diversification of the Aguas de Barcelona Group into the vehicle-inspection business.
2000

The company enters the US market through the acquisition of Keating, the market leader company in vehicle-emissions control.

The franchising of Applus+ IDIADA, boasting first-class facilities and a team of design, testing, engineering and type-approval experts for the international automobile industry.
2002

The company sets out its strategic position and the Applus+ brand is launched worldwide.
2003

Applus+ takes over the administration of Applus+ LGAI, providing the basis for its technological and international expansion in the testing and certification sector.
2004

Applus+ turns over €213M, with 30% of revenues obtained outside of Spain.

Applus+ acquires SOLUZIONA Calidad y Medio Ambiente (Applus+ Norcontrol and Novotec), becoming Spain's largest industrial and environmental inspection and technical-assistance company.
2005

Applus+ acquires Applus+ Bilsyn, the Danish public-owned vehicle-inspection company, which currently has 125 inspection centres. Applus+ becomes the world leader in vehicle inspections.
2006

Applus+ achieves a turnover of €540M and an international presence in more than 40 countries.

The company acquires Dutch Group Röntgen Technische Dienst (RTD), the European leader in non-destructive testing and inspection for the European oil and gas industry.

Applus+ positions itself as the market leader in oil and gas industry testing.

Applus+ acquires K1, Finland's second-largest vehicle-inspection company performing 20% of the country's inspections.
2007

The Carlyle Group becomes Applus+'s principal shareholder, with more than 70% of the group's shares.

Applus+ acquires several vehicle-testing and inspection operators in Finland, achieving a network of 45 stations and consolidating itself as the second-largest operator in the country.
2008

Applus+ achieves a turnover of €837M and continues to extend its international reach.

The company acquires MBI, the UK's market leader in non-destructive testing.

Applus+ also acquires JanX Integrity Group, the US market leader in non-destructive testing.
2009

Applus+ wins the tender to manage 100% of Ireland's vehicle-testing and inspection centres (National Car Testing). NCT performs safety inspections on more than 1.4 million vehicles each year at 46 centralised test centres across the country.
2011

Applus+ achieves a €1206M turnover across more than 65 countries.

Applus+ acquires the multinational Malaysian company VELOSI, specialising in inspection services, certification, testing and personnel recruitment for the oil and gas industry, thereby consolidating its global leadership in the sector.

The company acquires German firm BKW, which offers testing and materials characterisation for the European aeronautics industry.

Between 2002 and 2011, thanks to a steady process of internationalisation, 70% of turnover is achieved outside of Spain across five continents.
